Our Maltese domicile launched in January 2007 through a joint venture with Elmo Insurance Limited - an established Maltese insurer with an international vision and culture of underwriting, having represented Royal & Sun Alliance for over 60 years.

Elmo's role in providing local knowledge and infrastructure is central to our vision of delivering the highest quality insurance management services in Malta. Their highly qualified insurance and accountancy staff have a strong presence in the island's business community, and an understanding of the local regulatory environment that proves invaluable in the licensing and operation of new insurers and reinsurers.

With its low-tax, low-cost location and efficient regulatory environment that accelerates the set-up of new companies, Malta is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for companies. It is also a full EU member state, permitting licensed insurance companies to write direct business in all EU/EEA countries.

Malta has to compete with Gibraltar, Ireland and Luxembourg for this business and is the newcomer in that regard. JLT undertook careful analysis of the choice of domicile for its new EU Insurance Management company, and concluded that Malta was the most attractive.
