In 2009 JLT conducted a qualitative study to gain further insight in to this market. The purpose of the study was to discover how insurers had been affected by Madoff and the global sub-prime crisis and, in turn, how this would influence the cost and availability of insurance for UK fund and investment managers, in particular hedge funds.

The research discovered some significant (and surprising) variances in the scope of cover enjoyed by fund Managers.

Seizure of IT Assets

The effects of the global recession will be felt for a number of years. This can be a breeding ground for the disgruntled employee who can cause damage to your computer network and the data that resides on it. Mergers and acquisitions can have a similar effect if employees do not find meaningful employment post the merger or acquisition.

Foreign governments are now fully exploiting the online world with malware that captures and relays confidential data. A report in 2009 stated that 'a number of countries are actively seeking UK information and material to advance their own military, technological and political gains'. The pandemic threat of a major 'denial of service attack' that could cripple key global data centres could pose a risk of many hours of unplanned downtime.

The increase in regulatory authority powers may result in the seizure of critical servers in the event your are involved in a security breach or data privacy breach or possibly involved in using pirated or unlicensed software thereby rendering parts of your network inoperable whilst an investigation is conducted.
