Specie & Fine Art

‘Specie' refers to the insurance of valuable property such as precious metals, valuable documents and jewels. Fine art covers all types of collectibles in addition to paintings and sculpture.

JLT has extensive experience in this sector together with technical and transactional expertise. By looking carefully at your needs, we can create custom-made programs specific to the items you wish to ensure. In the event of a claim, you can rest assured that this will be addressed rigorously and that you will be kept fully informed.

Our specie and fine art services cover a wide range of products, industry sectors and risks. These include:

Specie - includes metals from the mining stage, through refining and manufacturing, to the trading of the finished product

Financial institutions - with experience of placing risks in excess of $1bn, our services cover premises, safe deposit and transit-related risks, J Form (including cover for electronic securities), and the trading and financing of all types of commodity. We also offer cancelled cheque and Cheque 45 cover, Excess Securities Investment Protection Corporation (SIPC). Excess Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) and Erisa Bonds.

Valuable cargo in transit - we work with cash logistics companies, valuable cargo specialists and couriers across the world.

Diamonds, jewellery and luxury goods - from the mining to the retail sectors, we can insure high-end national or multi-national accounts.

Fine art - with access to more than US$1bn of capacity with Lloyd's and the London company market, we offer services to private individuals as well as businesses involved in exhibiting and shipping fine art.

We also provide cover for large private collections of jewellery.

Reinsurance - we can handle all forms of reinsurance for specie and fine art risks either on a facultative or treaty basis.

We work with underwriters of the highest quality including Lloyd's and other London-based insurance companies. We aim to develop exceptional relationships across all areas of expertise and endeavour to meet with clients on a regular basis. And, as much specie and fine art business consists of small premium, high volume accounts, we place and administer binding authorities for many of our clients across the world.
