17th August 2009, London: Pension Capital Strategies Limited (PCS) has appointed Antony Osborn-Barker as Managing Director of its investment advisory service. Antony joins from BNP Paribas, where as Global Head of Pension Advisory, he led teams in London and New York to deliver integrated banking, investment, insurance and custodial solutions for better managing asset and liability risks.
Charles Cowling, Managing Director, PCS, says, "I am delighted to welcome Antony to the team. As pension scheme pressures continue to impact on Corporates, we are seeing increased demand for investment related services. PCS will use Antony's appointment to build on its current investment offering to add solutions drawn independently from all market participants covering pension funding, cash flow hedging, deficit repair, structured returns for both defined benefit and defined contribution schemes and surplus management".
Antony has a wealth of industry experience having formerly been Head of Investment Services at Deloitte, as well as being a member of the Nuclear Liabilities Financing Assurance Board set up by the UK Government to ensure appropriate financial arrangements are put in place by the operators of new nuclear power stations to meet the future costs of decommissioning and waste management. Antony will be based in the Manchester and London Offices.
Commenting on his appointment, Antony said "There is a clear perception amongst companies that previous pension advice and governance has failed, opportunities have been missed, and no-one is pro-actively bringing them innovative, timely and affordable solutions. This stems from an industry over-emphasis on "being strategic" and poor adviser appreciation of real capital market challenges, liquidity and pricing, Board rooms need now to be focusing on their core businesses, not playing at being quasi-insurance companies. Being part of a FTSE quoted company themselves, PCS understands what companies need and so can better help them change both what they do and how they do it".
