JLT Benefit Solutions and the Pension Management

Institute announce major joint initiative

29th June 2010, London: JLT Benefit Solutions, one of the largest providers of pension scheme administration and consultancy services in the UK, and the PMI have entered into a major joint initiative which, over the next 12 months, will investigate the relationship between pension scheme administration and effective scheme governance.  This issue is a major consideration for all UK pension schemes and of increasing importance as schemes look to control risk and operate in a rapidly changing pensions environment.

The partnership will involve a number of activities including;

  • A series of surveys targeting not only PMI members but also JLT Benefit Solutions' clients and the wider market
  • PMI TV appearances and PMI News articles discussing findings and providing opinion on the implications
  • An appearance by a JLT Benefit Solutions representative at this year's PMI Autumn Conference in September at which the results will be discussed.

Commenting on the initiative, Malcolm Reynolds, Head of Trustee Solutions at JLT Benefit Solutions, said: ‘as one of the largest pension scheme administrators in the UK, we are delighted to be working closely with the PMI on this major project. We want to provide Trustees and scheme sponsors with a fresh look at pension scheme administration and, in particular, the key role effective systems and technology can play in ensuring the effective governance of all kinds of pension schemes. We are committed to making sure this partnership provides us, our clients and the 7 million pension scheme members which rely on our administration services with  valuable information necessary to address proactively the critical issues facing the pensions administration market'.

Vince Linnane, PMI Chief Executive added: "The vital role performed by pensions administrators has long been recognised by the PMI and we are delighted to be partnering with JLT on this important research initiative. We are entering a time when - with the move towards defined contribution pensions - people are going to rely on the quality of work undertaken by their scheme's administrators now more than ever before".
