Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

JLT's civil and infrastructure team places and services insurance programmes for projects such as:

• infrastructure - tunnels, bridges, roads, port developments
• buildings - from condos to office blocks
• pipelines, water treatment and supply projects
• hydroelectric power stations with associated civil works.

What really differentiates JLT is our practical on-site experience of the application of risk management techniques on major infrastructure projects, including tunnelling and deep excavation.  Placing construction insurance for tunnel projects in the London and European insurance markets requires a clear demonstration that the International Tunnel Code of Practice (ITCoP) has been addressed.  We support the principles contained with the Code and will work with you to promote and secure best practice to minimise and manage the project risks.

Our risk based approach has been developed working with some of the largest civil engineering projects in the world, including Singapore Circle Line, 2nd Avenue Subway in New York, Ras Laffan Port expansion and have recently been appointed on the Stockholm CityLine project.

To complement this approach we provide access to high calibre independent engineers who are leaders in their specific fields. Their expert opinions will give you a depth of insight and impartiality respected by the Insurance market that is not always available from broker-retained consultants - and in turn provide a major competitive advantage.

Insurance policy wordings are specifically tailored to your project to provide wide coverage based on your contractual and risk appetite requirements. And we shall remain on hand to give you a full service during both the pre-construction and construction phases:

Pre-construction: analysis of relevant contract conditions through risk analysis, advice on risk allocation and insurability, analysing financiers' requirements to marketing of the insurance programme in the local and international (re)insurance markets.

Construction: we'll keep you updated on issues in the market and our global experience. We can issue site procedure and claims handling manuals, attend claims and risk management meetings and offer claims advice in conjunction with our integrated claims colleagues.

Our team has long term relationships with Lloyds, London and European markets with a "projected maximum loss" capacity of over $3bn and access to large catastrophe limits, being able to achieve particularly high limits for floods and earthquakes.

We also have expertise in the field of Public Private Partnership projects, having been proactive in working with local partners, financiers and clients directly.
